Information Book For Helpers
The shift patterns can vary depending on the number of helpers and composition of helper groups. Each head of department will make up a rota for their group. It is likely that each group will have a different rota structure.
To give you an illustration the following rota may be used for Lady Helpers:
Lady helpers split into two teams - Team A and Team B, with shifts as follows:-
Day 1: 6.30am to 1.00pm, and then 8.00pm until patients settled
Day 2: 1.00pm to 8.00pm
Helpers may also be asked to volunteer for a night shift.
Shifts are designed to ensure that a balance of work and rest can be achieved. However helpers may also choose to continue to take part in Pilgrimage activities when they are “off-shift”.
Sometimes helpers who are not on shift are asked to help if there is a large ceremony or procession where a lot of help is needed.
