The 67th Miraculous Cure is recognised

An Italian woman, Anna Santaniello has been declared as the 67th person to receive a miraculous cure in Lourdes.  Although the miracle has only just been declared, it actually took place in 1952 when she was aged 41.  She is now 93 years old, and in good health.

The miracle occurred after Anna was bathed in the Lourdes waters.  She had been suffering from severe heart disease arising from acute rheumatic arthritis.  She suffered breathlessness, could barely speak. and could not walk at all.  Despite travelling to Lourdes on a stretcher, she returned unaided.

On examination, many of her conditions had disappeared - she could walk without any problem, sleep peacefully, recovered her appetite, and was found to have a normal pulse and heart rhythm.  She was examined by the Medical Bureau in Lourdes.

In 1960 she travelled to Lourdes as a nurse.  At this time, it was proclaimed that the miracle could neither be concluded or denied, due to a problem with the medical terminology used to describe her condition.  However, in October 2004 Anna's case was raised again and a new cardiology report was obtained.  After this, Archbishop Gerardo Pierro of Salerne (her own Diocese) officially recognised the miraculous cure.
